Spring Illusion

At first, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. This can’t be?!! It’s January. However, much to my delight — the bloom is very real. Upon close examination, I spotted a few more buds — ready to bloom. Looks like the over abundance of rain, a few sporadic rays of sunlight and mild temperature is fooling the Rhododendron bush into believing spring has arrived. While I am very excited to see this, I just hope the spring weather isn’t just an illusion. And old man winter is still lurking… waiting to unleash its freezing touch.

Mean while, for those of you who are as sick of winter as I am — hope this picture will help brighten your day. 😀

  1. Great shot! We have a Rhododendron Garden in our city (Mississauga Ontario, west of Toronto), but we’ll have to wait until May to see blooms like this as more snow is expecting for the next few months.

  2. Sad, I just checked out Rhodi and didn’t see any buds. Sniff. Lovely shot Emily, I love the detail, the texture, the colours…I just really like it overall! 😀

  3. Oh yes, some of our rhodedendrons think spring has arrived (as did the birds til the frosts startled them out of thinking of ‘egg-work’). Gorgeous bloom. What we do have starting at this time of the year, which will almost certainly not be affected by worse weather should it occur (‘should’! Who am I kidding?) is the Magnolia. That’s in bud now, always the first. Looking forward to the display of all these plants as I’m sure you are too. Thanks for the photo, Emily. Yes, definitely brightens things up!

  4. This definitely brightens my day, great shot! We have little flowers shooting up in our yard (in Portland, OR). Poor flowers, stay down, not time yet! 🙂

    • Lol… I said the same thing to the flowers. It’s definitely too early, hope we will not get any more snow or freezing temps. Thanks Crystal for your compliment. 🙂
